Fur Coat Mutations

Some Amoux have adapted to different environments with different fur coats, and others have been selectively bred to look different.

Common Coat

Amoux most commonly have medium-length fur. Their fur is soft on the underside, especially the belly, but much more coarse along the dorsal side of the body. Their fur is slightly hydrophobic, so most will not have qualms about getting in the water.

Heavy Coat

This coat type is an adaptation. The heavier coat of fur helps Amoux stay warm for longer periods of time during particularly cold nights in the North, and protects better against attacks from threats and other Amoux. However, this coat type is more susceptible of slowing them down if it gets too wet.

Silky Coat

This coat type is a selectively bred trait. This coat was bred primarily for show Amoux, and for shearing their coat to make soft fabrics.

Their coats are not protective, and individuals with it are prone to injuries, and can be significantly slowed down if they get wet at all.

If not groomed regularly by a keeper or companion, the coat can become extremely dirty and matted and will cause severe health complications for the individual.

The Silky coat was originally produced from breeding a Heavy coat and Velvet coat, and then selectively bred throughout several generations to perfect the long, silky furs. It can be produced from Velvet x Heavy coat pairings.

Velvet Coat

This coat type is a selectively bred trait. Velvet shortens the fur to a length that gives the entire coat a soft, velvet-like texture. This is an advantage in hotter climates, and allows the individual to move more swiftly. However, this coat type does make the Amoux extremely prone to getting injured as there is no thick fur to protect against bites, scrapes, or scratches. They also tend to have more issues with external parasites, like ticks and mosquitos.

Feather Coat

Thought to be a long-lost evolutionary trait. Ancient creatures that the Amoux evolved from were more avian-like and often adorned proto-feathers. There were a few subspecies that had even evolved to have a full coat of feathers!

Some even speculate that the "fur" on Amoux is rather an evolved type of feather rather than actual fur, similar to down feathers found on modern birds.

The feather crests on the modern Feather coat are all movable.

Unfortunately while the Amoux arm-feathers on most look like small wings, they are much too heavy to actually fly or even glide.
